General Seeding rules for the five technical divisions; 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, and 5A.***
The five 2010 World Champions in 1A through 5A are seeded into the Championship Finals.
All recognized current National Champions, in each of the five divisions, are seeded into the Championship Finals. Note that winners of a National Open Division (or X-Division), where contestant may compete in more than one style, do not earn a seed in any of the divisions.
Performance order for the finals will be the qualifiers in reverse preliminary score order followed by the seeded players in random order.
General Preliminary Freestyles Rules
Contestants will have one-minute to perform a freestyle to the music of their choice.
Music should be uploaded online prior to the contest.
All General and Specific Championship Freestyle Rules apply (except one-minute freestyles instead of 3 minute.)
All Championship Freestyle scoring criteria for Technical Execution shall apply to the one-minute freestyles.
Single A (1A) Preliminary Round Procedure: One Minute Freestyles
All non-seeded 1A players will be randomly sorted into three equal size groups, A, B & C, for the Preliminary Round and will compete on Day 1, Thursday August 4th.
The top 25 contestants from the combined groups will advance to the 1A Semi-Final Round which will be held on Day 2, Friday August 5th.
In addition to the 25 automatic qualifiers, any contestant with a score within 1.00 point of the 25th qualifier will also advance to the 1A Semi-Final Round.
Single A (1A) Semi-Final Round Procedure: One Minute Freestyles
The top 10 contestants from the “1A Semi-Final Round” advance to the 1A Championship Finals which will be held on Saturday night August 6th.
In addition to the 10 automatic qualifiers, any contestant with a score within 1.00 point of the 10th qualifier will also advance to the 1A Championship Finals.
If there are less than 10 seeded 1A players competing, additional contestants may be chosen from the Semi-Final Round up to a maximum of 20 finalists. Note that extra contestants will be added only if their scores are within 5.00 points of the 10th qualifier.
All Semi-Final Round contestants will be randomly sorted to determine performance order.
Double A (2A) Preliminary Round Procedure: One Minute Freestyles
The 2A Preliminary Round will be held on Day 1, Thursday August 4th.
The top 5 contestants from the “2A Preliminary Round” automatically advance to the 2A Championship Finals which will be held on Friday night August 5th.
In addition to the 5 automatic qualifiers, any contestant with a score within 1.00 point of the 5th qualifier will also advance to the 2A Championship Finals.
If there are less than 5 seeded 2A players competing, additional contestants may be chosen from the Preliminary Round up to a maximum of 10 finalists. Note that extra contestants will be added only if their scores are within 5.00 points of the 5th qualifier.
Triple A (3A) Preliminary Round Procedure: One Minute Freestyles
The 3A Preliminary Round will be held on Day 1, Thursday August 4th.
The top 5 contestants from the “3A Preliminary Round” automatically advance to the 3A Championship Finals which will be held on Friday night August 5th.
In addition to the 5 automatic qualifiers, any contestant with a score within 1.00 point of the 5th qualifier will also advance to the 3A Championship Finals.
If there are less than 5 seeded 3A players competing, additional contestants may be chosen from the Preliminary Round up to a maximum of 10 finalists. Note that extra contestants will be added only if their scores are within 5.00 points of the 5th qualifier.
Off String (4A) Preliminary Round Procedure: One Minute Freestyles
The 4A Preliminary Round will be held on Day 1, Thursday August 4th.
The top 6 contestants from the “4A Preliminary Round” automatically advance to the 4A Championship Finals which will be held on Friday night August 5th.
In addition to the 6 automatic qualifiers, any contestant with a score within 1.00 point of the 6th qualifier will also advance to the 4A Championship Finals.
If there are less than 6 seeded 4A players competing, additional contestants may be chosen from the Preliminary Round up to a maximum of 12 finalists. Note that extra contestants will be added only if their scores are within 5.00 points of the 6th qualifier.
Counter Weight (5A) Preliminary Round Procedure: One Minute Freestyles
The 5A Preliminary Round will be held on Day 2, Friday August 5th.
The top 6 contestants from the “5A Preliminary Round” automatically advance to the 5A Championship Finals which will be held on Saturday night August 6th.
In addition to the 6 automatic qualifiers, any contestant with a score within 1.00 point of the 6th qualifier will also advance to the 5A Championship Finals.
If there are less than 6 seeded 5A players competing, additional contestants may be chosen from the Preliminary Round up to a maximum of 12 finalists. Note that extra contestants will be added only if their scores are within 5.00 points of the 6th qualifier.
*** Note that with the concurrence of the Contest Director and the Co-Head Judges additional contestants may be advanced to the Championship Finals or the 1A Semi-Final Round if it is in the best interest of the 2011 World Yo-Yo Contest.
