Hello all. We've been slammed here getting the World Yo-Yo Contest together. A few notes.

The 2012 World Yo-Yo Contest Registration will be extended to Saturday, July 21st at 12pm EST (GMT-5). After this time, if you are not registered, you cannot compete. If you have not yet signed up to attend or to compete in the 2012 World Yo-Yo Contest, make sure to sign up before Saturday at noon.

You only need to upload your preliminary music right now. You can upload your finals music if you wish.

The final list of Seeded Players using their seeds at the 2012 WYYC is on-line. If you are not on this list, get up with us. By Monday it will be too late to fix anything.

The Rosen Plaza is Sold Out, but it looks like we may have two rooms available due to people who reservered an extra room. Get up with us if you need a room.

World Yo-Yo Contest SE yo-yo Deadline

Friday at 12:Noon (EST, GMT-5) is the cut off if you want to get the SE worlds Edition yo-yo this year.

If you have registered, but have not ordered a yo-yo, and you want to, just go to this link and order one. The yo-yos will be distraibuted at worlds at the registration booth.

WYYC update

The latest updates. 1. Registration goes up on the 30th. Save money register now at http://www.WorldYoYoContest.com 2. We have confirmed bus transport for Lucky's BBQ. So this year not only is the food free (while it lasts) thanks to Yomega, but the transport is free too. We will have a 50 seat bus running about every 15 minutes. One last detail to confirm and it is all set up. It will run from 4:30 to 10:30, so do make sure you get back early enough to fit on the busses. You will want to because as soon as you get back Mark Hayward will be hosting the wheel of penalty. 3. To clarify, we will have a seed rules in effect, a better version will be posted soon but it boils down to this.

A. If you have a national seed and you want to use it, you must get in contact with us. by July 10th. Don't get in touch with us and you don't get to use your seed. People who took first place in the 2011 WYYC are also seeded. We know who you are, but we'd really like to know if you plan to compete. B. We had a rule last year, that will go forward for this year that if we get more than 10 seeds in a division, we have the option of running a preliminary to narrow down the seeded players that get into the final round automatically to 10. This rule is in effect because at some point in the few years or two we expect there to be a potential of 30 seeds per division. We do not expect this rule to be used this year, and the head judges can decide not to use it. Also, if we do decide to use it, we will let you know at least a week in advance the contest. Keep in mind this will probably only effect 1A in the near future, but it will be on the books so we can deal with the unexpected. Mostly we want people to get ready for the idea that seeds can be narrowed down. There are two other things about this you need to know. 1. if you won the previous years WYYC you are in the final round, you will never have to do this seeded preliminary. 2. If you don't make it directly into the final round you are automatically put in the final preliminary round, so with a seed you are not out, you get a 2nd chance. 3. If this rule goes into effect, anyone who seeded, even if they do not make it to the finals still gets a medal if they are at the WYYC to compete. They have done an amazing thing and they need to be recognized, and they will. Why? Well we can't judge 40 people in the final round. It is just too much. We want to keep the ability for walk up players to compete, and not to limit it just to seeded players. We still want the seeds to be valuable, and we think we are keeping them as valuable by doing this. We also want to encourage more countries to run major national contests. This is one of the major parts of the seeding process, and the success of this growth is what we are dealing with here.

4. Flags: We are running out of wall space for all the flags, so we thought we'd making hanging the flags a reward for the country. It has been proposed that the flags that are hung, are the flags of countries that have had a contestant achieve the final top 3 in any division of the modern World Yo-Yo Contest. By winning for your country you also win the country's flag to be represented at future WYYC's. I'm going from memory here, but I think this means that we will have flags of Brazil, Japan, Germany, USA, Singapore and Canada. If I have forgotten any country, please get in touch with us by replying to this e-mail. 5. Do you want to teach a workshop, we still are looking for some workshop leaders. I think that's it for now. WYYC: TV coverage and updates.

Paul started as a speed cuber, but now competes at the WYYC, he got interviewed by Channel 8 in Portland. He is now sponsored by One Drop.

A few updates before the video.

1. The room block at the Rosen Plaza hotel closes at 5pm on July 10th. That is Eastern Standard time (GMT-5). Be warned there is a lot going on in the area, and it may be hard to get rooms elsewhere if the Rosen sells out. Also remember, you won't be charged for the room until right before the event and you can cancel the room with no penalty.

2. The next price increase for registering to attend the World Yo-Yo Contest is on June 30th. Register before then to save on admission.

WYYC Update #4

Just some quick updates.

1. Freestyle Yo-Yo Rules (or most of them) are now posted at http://www.worldyoyocontest.com Expect some fine tweaks to these rules over the next few weeks.

2. Prices for registration will go up. The 15th is the last day to register at the current prices. Save money and register now. You register for the contest at www.WorldYoYoContest.com

3. Hotel rooms are almost gone at the Rosen, if you want a room there, make your reservations now. Remember they don't charge until shortly before worlds, and you can cancel your reservations.

4. Lets welcome the latest sponsors. C3yoyodesign, Dif-e-yo, A2Z, Rewind and Yoyocommunity.com. Thank you for your support. Please make sure you take time to thank all the sponsors when you are at worlds. We could not do this without them.

5. If you are having trouble with a Visa to get into the USA for the WYYC, contact us. We can help in small ways, but this is what we are here to do.

6. If you see any news about the WYYC in print, TV or whatever, please forward us a link, or just tell us about it. We know of about 8 reporters contacting us about local players, and we would love to know if the stories they are working on run.

7. We are still looking for someone who wants to make the logo for the 2013 WYYC. If your logo is selected you will get free admission to the 2013 worlds.

8. If you want to teach a workshop, or have a great idea for one you want to take, contact us. We are specifically looking for someone to teach a beginner Diabolo workshop.

9. I just got word that the Mod room will have a 3D printer in it this year. Yes the WYYC is going for replicator technology.

A few quick updates.

Hotel:

This year not only is the hotel outside of our room block booked, but just about every other hotel in the area is also booked. There are several large conventions going on at the same time in other facilities. Our block is running out. If you want a room at the Rosen, register now. Remember, they don't charge you until a few days before you get there and you can cancel if you decide not to come (now why would you not come?)

Rules

We just posted the Ladder Rules, and rules for a few fun contest, check them out. These include Diabolo, and Top Ladders too. We would love to have a Kendama ladder this year, but we need someone to run it. If you are interested, reply to this e-mail.

Seeds

Once again let me make this clear. If you are planning on taking advantage of a seed you won at a national yo-yo contest, you MUST get in touch with us before the event. We have a list of seeds we have heard from at http://www.WorldYoYoContest.com and if you are not on it, don't expect to be able to use your seed. The requirement is on you to make sure you are on this list.

Registration

Registration is now open. Prices will go up on June 15th. You have not not noticed, that is a week away.

Heat

This is for you folks from outside the USA. The sun in Florida is very strong. It is why they call it the sunshine state. Make sure you use strong sun protection cream when you are outside here for any length of time. Remember to re-apply if you get wet (you swim) or every hour or so, because you will sweat it off. A sunburn can make your vacation go from fun to ... well not fun. Don't worry about bringing sun cream, you can get it in the USA, and from what I understand we have the best stuff outside of Australia. Read the FAQ for more info.

2013 Logo Help wanted

We are looking for a logo for the 2013 WYYC. If you are interested, please contact us. It must be separable into three colors, two of those will be white and black.

WYYC update #2 AP and Prize Money

Updates:

1. Rules for AP are up, and we want to announce cash prizes for the Artistic Performance Division.

$750.00 for first place
$500.00 for second place
$250.00 for third place

2. The rules for Sports String Tricks and Sport Looping Tricks as well as the Diabolo rules have been posted.

3. A bit of bad news. The Rosen Plaza Hotel was the last hotel on the strip that did not charge for parking. Apparently people from other hotels were clogging their lot to avoid their own hotels parking fees. Because of this they are now charging a daily parking fee, the fee is regularly $13.00, but if you are staying in the Rosen Plaza Hotel parking will be $5.00/day if you have registered under the worlds room block.

4. There are still rooms left in the Rosen. Remember you are not charged until a few days before the event, and you can cancel your reservation, so book your room now to make sure you have a room in the hotel for the event.

5. We still need Volunteers. Please contact us if you can help.

6. We need sports ladder judges, please also contact us. We have two open slots. We feed you if you are a judge. :) Breakfast and lunch.

7. A favor folks. I know that many of you are of drinking age, but we ask that alcohol is kept outside the hall. Last year late on Saturday night some folks left bottles all around the hall. The hotel pointed out that the insurance that we have does not cover drinking in the hall. It will increase the costs of worlds, and the price of admission if we have to get that kind of insurance. If you are legal, we are not saying don't drink in the hotel, just not in the hall, and please clean up after yourselves. The garbage can is not that far away. The attendees of the WYYC have been very good at preventing under age drinking, and we do appreciate that, but it is silly to have to raise prices on everyone when you can just go out by the pool or something. Thank you.

8. Mod Contest Rules will be posted soon, so will Top and Freestyle Rules.

9. If you have a national seed, please contact us. We are requiring that we know about seeds by July 15th if you want to use your seed.

10. If you need a letter of invitation or help with a visa, please contact us. We are here to give you these letters and to work from this side to help with your meeting at the consulate.

It's all coming together, and it's going to be a great time.

Registration for the 2012 World Yo-Yo Contest is Live!

If you've not been paying attention, we've gotten registration up late this year. Sometimes I hate computers and what an upgrade can do to ones data.

Well Reigstraion may be up late compared to last year, but as of now it is live.

What does this delay mean for you?

Well not a lot. We're doing the same system of raising prices to attend, but instead of doing every month or so, we're doing about every two weeks. We're starting at roughly the same point we did last year. Prices for a three day pass have gone up about $2.00 for the three days to cover increased costs. All other prices are the same, just the deadlines have changed. So go to http://www.worldyoyocontest.com and register before the 15th of June to get the biggest discount you can get.

We just got word that ford for the hot dog spin and grill at Lucky's house (Thursday Night) will be provided by Yomega. I want to thank them for their support. The food is sort of free this year. What I mean is that we are asking people to donate what they can for Operation Smile, this years charity that we are fund raising for. Remember the bring a towel and a swim suit to Lucky's. If all goes well we will have a shuttle bus to get you there. More on this soon.

Tony Alonzo (I sure hope I spelled that right) from yoyocommunity.com will be DJing there. It's going to be a great time.
