Seeding and Qualifying/Preliminary Freestyle Policy

  1. Pre-Registration:
  • To be eligible to compete in the Championship divisions (Single A, Double A, Triple A, Off-String, Counter-Weight and Combined) of the 2008 World Yo-Yo Contest all contestants must be Pre-Registered. This is the second year that this rule will be imposed and it will be strictly enforced.
  • All contestants must register on-line no later than July 18th (two weeks prior to the start of the contest), even if they are seeded players, to be eligible to compete.
  • Following online registration, contestants that believe that they are seeded must notify the World Yo-Yo Contest for what division(s) they are seeded and what country they will represent. This must be done no later than July 18th.
  • If you are a seeded player please send an email with your full name, your country, your division, and a link to results from your national contest to the email seeds@pd.net

  1. Single A Preliminary Freestyles Round #1:
Single A Preliminary Freestyles will be held in two sections (Round #1 and Round #2) due to the large number of likely contestants in this division.  Note that all unseeded foreign contestants will start in Round #2.  The primary reason for having two rounds of preliminary freestyles in Single A is to facilitate the judging process not to prejudge the qualifications of the contestants. All unseeded contestants from the USA must compete in Round #1 unless they qualify for Round #2 by possessing one or more of the follow qualifications.
  • All Single A (1A) finalists at the 2006 and 2007 World Yo-Yo Contests.
  • All Regional Single A (1A) qualifiers for the 2007 or 2008 National Yo-Yo Contest.
  • All Single A (1A) finalists at the 2006 National Yo-Yo Contest.
  • All previous World or National Single A (1A) Champions.
  • For a current list of all Round #2 qualified players Click Here

  • Music must be provided in a format that may be "ripped" by the World Yo-Yo Contest staff to a digital player. The music shall be clearly labeled with the contestant's name.
  • Music should be provided on a CDR as the only track on the CDR. Music shall start from the beginning of the track and shall be played for one-minute where it shall be cut off. Contestants can feel free to edit the music so that it fades out or ends at the appropriate time. Functionality of the CDR is the responsibility of the contestant.
  • All General and Specific Championship Freestyle Rules apply (except one-minute freestyles instead of 3-minute.)
  • All Championship Freestyle scoring criteria for Technical Execution and Performance Style shall apply to the one-minute freestyles.
