2007 World Yo-Yo Contest - Seeding and Qualifying/Preliminary Freestyle Policy
1. Pre-Reregistration
  • To be eligible to compete in the Championship divisions (1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, & 5A) of the 2007 World Yo-Yo Contest all contestants must be Pre-Reregistered. This is a new contest requirement for the 2007 event and this rule will be strictly enforced.
  • All contestants must register on-line no later than July 20, 2007 (two weeks prior to the start of the contest), even if they are seeded players, to be eligible to compete. At the time of their online registration, contestants that believe that they are seeded must notify the World Yo-Yo Contest for what division(s) they are seeded and what country they will represent.
  • You do not have to pay on-line at the time of pre-registration, you can pay at the door. Please keep in mind, it is cheaper to pay on-line.
2. Seeded Championship Freestyle Finalists for 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A
  • Each National winner will be automatically seeded into their respective division Championship Freestyle.
  • National winners are the winners of the 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A divisions or Y- division (combined 2A-5A competitions) of National Yo-Yo Contests recognized by the World Yo-Yo Contest. These include the SYYA, ABI, AYYA, UTYJ, BYYA, KYYA, ABI, CYA, Hong Kong, Poland, Mexico, Hungry and GYYA.
  • In addition to the National winners, the 2006 World Champions in (1st place only) 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A will also be seeded into their respective championship freestyle.
  • All other contestants must enter the Qualifying and/or Preliminary Freestyles in order to qualify for the finals.
3. Qualifying Freestyles will be held in the 1A Division only
Qualifying Freestyles will be held in the 1A Division only, due to the large number of likely contestants. This year, due to the number of contestants there will be two rounds of 1 minute freestyle for one A only.
  • If you were a 1A finalist at the 2006 World Yo-Yo Contest you are automatically seeded into the 1A Preliminary Freestyle round.
  • If you placed in the top 10 of your country's most recent National 1A contest you are automatically seeded into the 1A Preliminary Freestyle round.
  • All other 1A contestants must enter the 1A Qualifying Freestyle round in order to qualify for the 1A Preliminary Freestyle round.
  • Contestants will have 1 minute to perform a freestyle to the music of their choice.
  • Music must be provided uploaded in .mp3 format Here
  • Contestants should bring a backup of their music on a CDR in a standard CD format. No MP3 files or other file formats will be accepted. The music shall be clearly labeled with the contestant's name.
  • Music shall start from the beginning of the track and shall be played for 1-minute where it shall be cut off. Contestants can feel free to edit the music so that it fades out or ends at the appropriate time. Functionality of the CDR or the .mp3 file is the responsibility of the contestant.

  • All General and Specific Championship Freestyle Rules apply (except 1 minute freestyles instead of 3 minutes.) LINK HERE
  • All Championship Freestyle Scoring criteria for Technical Execution and Performance Style will be used by the judges for the 1 minute freestyles.
  • The top five contestants will advance to the 1A Preliminary Freestyle.
4. Preliminary Freestyles will be held in 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A
  • Contestants will have 1 minute to perform a freestyle to the music of their choice.
  • Music must be provided prior to the contest, usually the day before.
  • Music must be provided on a CDR in a standard CD format. No MP3 files or other file formats will be accepted. The music shall be clearly labeled with the contestant's name. We suggest you bring an extra copy of your CDR and/or the original CD as a backup.
  • Music should be provided on a CDR as the only track on the CDR. Music shall start from the beginning of the track and shall be played for 1-minute where it shall be cut off. Contestants can feel free to edit the music so that it fades out or ends at the appropriate time. Functionality of the CDR is the responsibility of the contestant.
  • All General and Specific Championship Freestyle Rules apply (except 1 minute freestyles instead of 3 minutes.)
  • All Championship Freestyle Scoring criteria for Technical Execution and Performance Style will be used by the judges for the 1 minute freestyles.
5. Unseeded Championship Freestyle finalists will be determined in 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A based on Preliminary Freestyle scores.
  • In 1A, a maximum of 10 contestants will advance to the Championship Freestyles from the 1A Preliminary Freestyle up to a maximum of 20 contestants including seeds.
  • In 2A, 3A, 4A and 5A, a minimum of 5 Preliminary Freestyle contestants up to a maximum of 10 contestants including seeds will advance to the Championship Freestyles.
  • Note that the number of finalists above are guidelines and the Head Judges with the concurrence of the Contest Director have the discretion to make any changes that benefit the 2007 World Yo-Yo Contest.
