2006 World Yo-Yo Counter Weight division (CW-5A) Yo-Yo is not attached to the hand.
Read trick descriptions carefully. All tricks are to be performed as described in the text and accompanying video (if available). Significant loss of control of the yo-yo will not be allowed. This round allows one attempt of each trick for five points, a second attempt (if necessary) for three points. Your compulsory score is the total of the points scored on the ten tricks. Top scoring players advance to the final freestyle.

Please note: Bind returns are allowed for all tricks but not required.

At each trick station all tricks must be performed using the same yo-yo. You may change the yo-yo between each trick station. Stations will be announced on the day of the event.

Top contestants from compulsories go to the freestyle finals. Please see freestyle rules for the number of contestants that progress to freestyles and for freestyle rules.

1. Beesting: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a trapeze, release the counterweight, swinging it under your free hand allowing it to unmount the yo-yo, as the string comes around the other side throw the yo-yo over your free hand in the opposite direction onto the string creating a reverse (backspin) mount, catch the counter weight with your throw hand, allowing yo-yo to continue back into a trapeze mount. End trick with any dismount.
Judging Guidelines
2. Butterfly: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Start with a single rep of sideways pinwheel holding the string close to the middle section. As you complete the pinwheel, throw the counterweight in the direction opposite to the pinwheel and behind the yo-yo's trajectory. Cross the counter-weight and the yo-yo's trajectories at the bottom, this time with the counter-weight's trajectory in front, to complete one rep. Execute 4 more repetitions. As the last repetition is completed, catch the counter-weight or the string segment close to it and end with a Trapeze. End trick with any dismount.
Judging Guidelines
The yo-yo string must not wrap completely around the free hand index finger during the entire trick.
3. Nunchuck Combo: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a sleeper over your free hand index finger and perform one Pinwheel continuing directly into a -split bottom mount. Drop the string from your Freehand, perform a somersault and release the counter weight allowing the string to unmount from the yo-yo and rotate under and over your throw hand shoulder. Catch the counter weight with your free hand in "shoulder hold" Pull the yo-yo over your shoulder allowing it to travel around your shoulder a second time, release the counter weight as the yo-yo travels around, grab the string (not the counter weight) and swing the counter weight around your shoulder back into a second "shoulder hold." Grab the counterweight with your Freehand and pull the yo-yo over one final time, transfer the counter weight to your original throw hand and return the yo-yo to your hand in any way.
Judging Guidelines
4. Stall: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a one and a half mount and remove your free hand index finger so the entire mount is on your Throwhand. Do a pinwheel to the outside of your body and release the counter weight. As the counter weight rotates around, switch the string to your throw hand's middle finger and have the string go through the yo-yo gap. Let the string bypass your hand entirely and wrap around the yo-yo axle. Swing the yo-yo towards your free hand to stop the circular motion and swing it back to make the counter weight rotate the other way around. Let it unwrap from the yo-yo axle and un-mount from the yo-yo entirely. Switch the string back to your throw hand's index finger and let the counter weight go through the gap again and end with a bottom mount. End trick with any dismount.
Judging Guidelines

(note last year we called this trick "One-hand Under Mount")
Throw a sleeper, swing the yo-yo forward and slide your throw hand away from the counter weight and to the center of the string, allow the counter weight to swing under the yo-yo and mount it on the string as it travels around, catch the counter weight with Throwhand. End trick with any dismount.
Judging Guidelines
6. Eli Hop Chops: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a trapeze, (opening) pop the yo-yo up, release the counter weight, grab the string with your free hand and perform an undercut (chop) with your original throw hand and mount the yo-yo in a "switch trapeze", pop the yo-yo up, release the string from your original Freehand, grab the string with your original throw hand and perform an undercut (chop) with your original free hand landing the yo-yo in a regular trapeze. Repeat from (opening) and perform two more chops into a second "switch trapeze" and a final regular trapeze for a total of four (4) chops. End trick with any dismount.
Judging Guidelines
7. Shoulder Pop: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a split bottom mount, drop the string from your Freehand, throw a somersault and release the counter weight, allowing the string to unmount from the yo-yo as the counter weight swings around. Allow the counter weight to strike near your shoulder causing it to change its rotation direction. As it comes around in the opposite direction allow the string to remount on the yo-yo and catch the counter weight. End trick with any one-hand dismount.
Judging Guidelines
8. Windmill: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a breakaway, intersect the string with your free hand index finger as in trapeze, as the yo-yo travels around release the counter weight and allow it to trail the path of the yo-yo. Do not allow the yo-yo to mount onto the string. As the counter weight comes around, catch it with your original throw hand to complete one rep. From the counter weight release complete two more reps. At the end of the third rep allow yo-yo to go into a trapeze mount. End trick with any dismount.
Judging Guidelines
9. FreehandTM Melt Down: [MPG] [MP4]
Rules:
Throw a one and a half mount and remove your free hand index finger so the entire mount is on your throw hand. Do a pinwheel to the outside of your body and release the counter weight. As the counter weight rotates around, have the string go through the gap and catch the weight in your free hand. You will be in a switch trapeze. Dismount the switch trapeze and remount into a standard trapeze. Swing the yo-yo into a trapeze and his brother. Do a pinwheel to the inside of your body. As the counter-weight rotates around, again have it thread through the gap and catch the weight in your free hand. You should be in an over mount. Dismount the yo-yo and remount in a standard trapeze. Return the yo-yo to your hand in any way.

Rules:
Throw a one and a half mount and remove your free hand index finger so the entire mount is on your throw hand. Do a pinwheel to the outside of your body and release the counter-weight. Have the yo-yo travel around your throw hand and under the throw hand-side leg and release the string. As the counter-weight travels around and un-mounts from the yo-yo, intercept the string with your throw hand index finger and end with a reverse trapeze. Un-mount the trapeze, switch the counter-weight back to your throw hand and return the yo-yo to your hand.
