A Tricks : 2001 World Yo-Yo Contest.

To help you out, we have added a specific FAQ file to help with you A division tricks

Compulsory rules for A at the 2001 world yo-yo contest.

  • All tricks successfully performed on first attempt receive 5 points. A successful second attempt receives 3 points.
  • The yo-yo must be caught with one hand and not trapped against the body.
  • If more than five inches of string remains outside the yo-yo when caught, it is considered a miss.
  • All yo-yos must be able to at all times sleep a minimum of 3 seconds, the judge may request to test any yo-yo at any time.
  • A trick box will be drawn with tape, ink or other means. The box is the space inside the line or tape and does not include the thickness of the line or tape.
  • Any throw made while in the trick box counts as a try.
  • All tricks must be done while the contestant is standing with both feet in the trick box. Any throw while standing outside the box will not count as an attempt.
  • Only the following tricks may be done while the contestant is on deck as the current contestant (on stage but outside the trick box): Throwdown, spinner, forward pass, a single Loop the Loop, or string adjustments. Practicing a contest trick or performing tricks other than those specifically allowed outside the trick box while on deck as the current contestant shall count as a miss.
  • While outside the trick box, yo-yo string can be adjusted manually, or re-looped. Unintentionally broken or knotted strings may be replaced with strings of the same length.
  • If the contestant's feet (both) leave the trick box during a trick, a miss is considered to have taken place at that moment.
  • Any yo-yos may be used for this division. The same yo-yos must be used for all tricks.
  • Shortening the string by winding it around a hand, finger, bunching it up in one's hand, or by other techniques that intend to shorten the string substantially for the purpose of making the tricks easier will not be allowed. All tricks must be performed using the full length of the string.
  • Additional reps of a trick will be allowed as long as the tricks completion is clean. This will allow you to loop an extra time or two to insure you have counted the reps of a trick properly. See the faq for more information and examples on when this is not allowed.
  • The judge(s) decision is final.
  • All judging will be done live, video replay will not used.
  • Any contestant that is not being judged who interrupts or interferes with another contestants performance can be disqualified.

  4. Eli Hops (10 hops): 10 reps as described in trick #1.
  5. Hop in the Bucket (6 reps): 6 reps as describe in trick #8.
  6. Most Suicides on one throw. Repeat this trick if necessary until tie is broken.

The order of tiebreakers 1-5 will be announced on the day of the event.

A Single Handed: Tie Breaking Procedure

  • The tie breaking method will be sudden death. Sudden death means, if you miss a trick and are no longer tied for a remaining position you are eliminated.
  • The order of the first five tiebreaker tricks will be announced on the day of the contest.
  • The first five (5) tiebreaker tricks will be performed, one at a time, until the tie is broken.
  • If two or more tied contestants miss the same trick, the trick will be repeated. If the tied competitors all miss the trick on the second attempt, the one(s) completing the most repetitions successfully will be the winner(s) or will continue in the tiebreaker process if a tie still exists.
  • If two or more tied contestants miss the trick and complete the same number of repetitions they will proceed to a first attempt on the next trick in the tie breaking process.
  • If a tie still exists after two or more contestants successfully complete the first five tricks, the sixth and final tiebreaker trick will be used to break the tie. This last tiebreaker will be repeated as many times as necessary to break the tie.

Example:
Five (5) contestants are tied for two (2) remaining positions in the freestyle finals.

Three (3) contestants successfully perform the first tiebreaker trick and the other two (2) fail in their attempt. The "sudden death" rule means the two (2) contestants that missed the trick are eliminated while the other three(3) proceed to the next tiebreaker trick.

If one of the remaining three contestants makes the next trick while the other two miss, the successful contestant qualifies for the freestyle finals. The other two contestants that missed the trick will be given a second attempt to make the same trick.

Freestyle

The contestants who score in the top 10 places of the compulsory competition and National Winners will compete in a 3 minute freestyle.
